On May 25, 2013 John Mauro, the Vice
President of Operations for Parking Vault Ltd. presented his company’s vision
of a relatively new concept for parking.
The idea is use of an automated parking facility that vertically stores
vehicles leaving a dramatically less footprint of parking space.
In addition to using less overall space,
the parking system appears to be pretty cost effective.
The system uses approximately 65% less space than a traditional parking
lot.  John said that the electricity
costs approximately .20 cents per car.
Combine this with the fact that it is all automated it projects to a
considerable savings.
Another aspect is the security of its
users.  The system safely secures your
vehicle so a potential thief cannot have access to break into it or steal
it.  Another safety concern is the crimes
against people.  A user would not be
exposed to a vulnerable area such as is the case in a traditional parking
lot.  The area that the customer
interacts is well lit and recorded for safety.
I personally like this concept.  When I lived in Japan I had the opportunity
to use a system similar to the one John describes.  I found that it was very user friendly, safe,
and secure.  The cost was relatively
cheap if my memory serves me correct.  I
believe it was equivalent to $5 or less.
I believe this would be extremely competitive in densely populated
areas.
The parking would be similar to the picture below.
